The Velveteen Rabbit

Nursery magic is very strange and wonderful, and only those playthings that are old and wise and experienced like the Skin Horse understood all about it.

This is one of those classic children's stories that I remember very clearly the first time I heard it as a kid. The magic of a much-loved toy yearning to become 'real' is a story any child can latch onto and instantly feel the magic permeating the story. Even now, reading it as an adult I found myself smiling and getting all nostalgic. Great classic kids story.

I give it a 4 1/4 out of 5 for its magic.

Ratings below each book are out of 5.

1 is me basically saying "I loathe you. And Your dog."

2 is me wondering, "Why was this book published?"

3 is me saying, "It's average. I have no love or hate; it's fine."

4 is me smiling through the whole book and saying, "Nooooo....don't end!"

5 is me having an existential crisis because it reached parts of my soul that I didn't know existed.

Ratings of 4 and 5 are usually books I end up reading more than once and want to own or already do.

I also try and have content warnings within my reviews or at the end of them so you'll never have to worry about getting hit with a book you thought you'd like but it swears like a sailor, has gore, violence, or sexual content. If I haven't said anything about content it's a good indicator that it is clean. It may have a few swear words, but otherwise safe to read.
